SOCHUM 1994: Rwandan Genocide
The 1994 slaughter of Tutsis in Rwanda horrified the international community, yet a quarter century later, the world’s lacklustre response to the genocide is all too obvious. This special session of SOCHUM will take delegates back to 1994, and task them with rebuilding Rwanda in a robust and sustainable manner. The issues facing the nation are numerous: school, hospitals and churches are destroyed, hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled the violence, and the education necessary to rebuild the nation is almost nonexistent. Delegates will be tasked with building a better future for Rwanda – not an easy task, surely, but a vital one.
